Dean and Mary's 1962 Impala 4 door hardtop Chev sedan is a
rare find as there were very few of these hardtop sedans brought
into the country in 1962. Making them a very sought after car
by collectors of early Chevrolets.
Dean found and brought the Impala 8 years ago in Ballarat from
a car collector there who was selling the Chev to make room
for an early t-bird he was buying for his collection (his misfortune)!
Dean and Mary's impala is as close to original as you will find.
The paint is still the coat that Loui's boys sprayed on back
in 62. The colour is royal torquoise blue. The trim is factory
torquoise green with cloth inserts in the seats. The stock factory
radio still sits in the dash and works perfectly even if it
only picks up am stations. The standard Impala steering wheel
still guides the Chev around the turns.
The Chev runs a factory standard unmodified steel crank 283
small block 2 barrel V8 with the standard 2 speed powerglide
and standard Chev diff.
The Chev now runs a twin 2" custom exhaust with turbo mufflers
for a bit more rumble in its note.
The stock Chev came with a set of rare factory optioned chrome
wire wheels which Dean has packed away safely and has replaced
them with a set of weld racing wheels. 15 x 10 with 265/50 series
Hankook tyres at the rear and 15 x 7 with 225/60 series Optomo
tyres at the front.
Road Runner had a clear laminated windscreen made to replace
the old sand blasted 40 year old one with and Dean says he can
now see were he is going (good for all us drivers).
Dean takes the Chev to all the GM days and American car shows
he can get to and through the summer takes it to all the local
cruise nights. This truly classic collector Chevy will be in
Dean and Mary's shed for many more years to come we imagine.
